Te Korowai Pūtahi Manawa - Community-led kaupapa Māori heart health research project funding.
This funding is for community-led kaupapa Māori research projects on heart health.
We will fund projects between $50k and $250k, for up to three years duration.
Projects must be Māori-led. Potential applicants will meet with Pūtahi Manawa to kōrero about their research plan and what support they might need. After this hui, invitations to submit a full application will be given. Full applications can be written in te reo Māori or English.

These scholarships is to provide direct support for Māori doctoral students undertaking research in heart health in Aotearoa New Zealand. The scholarships provide support for a three-year period, with a tax-free stipend $36,000 per annum, $5,000 p/a in research expenses and payment of tuition fees. Integrated Research Modules
RM funding supports the integration of numerous research disciplines to address a common question in heart health. Applications are open to new proposals as well as existing IRMs who are invited to apply.
Research teams are invited to assemble “integrated research modules” that can comprise multi-disciplinary approaches (e.g. Kaupapa Māori research, Pacific methodologies, epidemiology, epigenetics, physiology, bioengineering and clinical science). Funding will be for up to $1.4 million per IRM for up to three years. Requests for expressions of interest will be available shortly. Keep an eye on your inbox and our socials to be notified.

Travel Grants
Travel Grants
Pūtahi Manawa travel grants are designed to support Pūtahi Manawa researchers, collaborators and community partners to travel for purposes such as building relationships, gaining new research skills, forging research collaborations, and presenting their research. There is no closing date; applications are welcome at any time.

The Fatu Malosi student research programme provides opportunities for Pacific students studying health at a tertiary level to participate in a heart health equity programme of research during the 2025/26 summer break. Students a will receive a stipend of $9,000. More information available nearer the opening date.

These summerships aim to provide opportunities for Māori tauira studying health at a tertiary level to participate in a kaupapa Māori designed and led heart health research programme of work during the 2025/26 summer break.
